Minimum Age

You must be at least 14 years old as of the cut-off date of the admission block you are applying for. For Block 1 (2026-27), the age cut-off date is 31st July 2026. There is no upper age limit.

Educational Qualification

You must have passed Class 8 from a recognised school. If you do not have a Class 8 certificate, NIOS also accepts a self-declaration stating that you have studied up to Class 8. A Class 9 school leaving certificate is also accepted.

Nationality

Indian nationals as well as NRI and foreign students can apply for NIOS Class 10 admission.

NIOS Class 10 Admission Cycle 2026-27

NIOS Class 10 admission is divided into two blocks: Block 1 and Block 2. Block 1 admission is for the March/April 2027 public exams, and Block 2 is for the September/October 2026 public exams.

Block 1: March 2026 to September 2026

NIOS Stream 1 Block 1 starts on 16th March 2026, and the last date without late fees is 31st July 2026. Students admitted in Block 1 will appear for exams in March/April 2027.

Block 2: September 2025 to March 2026

NIOS Stream 1 Block 2 starts on 16th September 2025, and the last date without late fees is 31st January 2026. Students admitted in Block 2 appear for exams in September/October 2026.

Documents Required for NIOS Class 10 Admission

Step 1: Visit the Official NIOS Admission Portal

Go to the official NIOS student data management system at sdmis.nios.ac.in. Always use the official website to avoid fraud portals.

Step 2: Register as a New Student

Click on the new registration option and enter your basic details like name, date of birth, mobile number and email ID. You will receive a login ID and password on your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Select Your Stream

NIOS offers stream-wise registration across four streams for candidates. Choose the one that matches your situation. Stream 1 is for fresh students, while other streams are for students with prior NIOS or board history. If you are confused about which stream to pick, speak to a counsellor before proceeding.

Step 4: Choose Your Subjects

You must select a minimum of 5 subjects, including at least one language. Students can take a maximum of two languages from Group A and balance subjects from Group B. Students can also take one or two additional subjects, so the maximum number of subjects a student can take for NIOS 10th Class is seven.

Step 5: Upload Documents

Upload all required documents in the specified format and size. Double-check each document before submitting.

Step 6: Pay the Admission Fees

Complete your payment online using a debit card, credit card, UPI, or net banking. After successful payment, download and save your fee receipt. This is an important document for future reference.

Step 7: Download Your Confirmation

TMA (Tutor Marked Assignment)

TMA is a written assignment submitted before the exam. It carries 20% weightage for language subjects and 16% for core subjects. Submitting a quality TMA is important as it directly affects your final score.
